A community of peers
The Open Institute for Social Science is an academic cooperative. We own no property, we generate no profits, and we have no employees. Very little of our work is centrally planned. Instead, our projects are driven by the passions of our membership, who coordinate and lead their social scientific efforts on our common platform.
We welcome new members at all times, and we encourage our membership to take our shared vision in ambitious new directions. We are open by design and by philosophy, and we coordinate our efforts together through a process of consensus making. We aspire to minimal infrastructure, investing instead in the researchers, teachers, and students who make our community. We use peer review extensively at every level of operation to maintain high standards of quality, coordinated by our rotating board who acts as the custodian of our name, our principals, and our professional credentials. We are above all else an on-going experiment in organization and exchange.
